What This Pathway Is

The post-graduation work permit (PGWP) is an open work permit for international graduates who completed an eligible program at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada. It lets you work for most employers while you gain Canadian experience — often a step toward permanent residence through Express Entry or a provincial program.

IRCC publishes who qualifies, how long the permit may be, and document requirements on canada.ca. Program length, field of study, language tests, and maintaining status while you apply all matter. If your study permit expired recently, different restoration rules may apply — confirm on the official apply page.

EBBI collects your DLI/program facts, completion letter date, transcript, study permit expiry, in-Canada status, and language results (when required) through our assessment and client IRCC data intake. We prepare the file for review by supervising counsel; we do not submit to IRCC on your behalf without your signed authorization.

Common eligibility themes (verify on Canada.ca)

Not legal advice and not a final eligibility decision. IRCC assesses each application on the facts and current instructions.

  • You completed an eligible program at an eligible DLI and received confirmation of program completion (for example a completion letter and transcript).
  • You apply within the window IRCC sets after your program ends (see the official eligibility and apply pages).
  • Your study permit was valid at some point during the eligibility period, or you meet the rules if it recently expired.
  • You meet any language-test or field-of-study requirements that apply to your graduation date and program level.
  • You are in Canada with valid status, or you meet the rules for applying from outside Canada if that applies to your situation.
